Herons

Mystic Birds

2011-2015 — Sacred Location

Mystic Birds is a collection of 30 large-format photographic panels portraying Great Blue Herons in their secluded nesting grounds. These nests have long fascinated me. Although I have known this hidden place for decades, every visit evokes the same feeling: a quiet reverence, as if stepping onto sacred ground. Every spring, for over three years, I spent days lying in the mud at the same beaver dam, hidden by branches, watching their rituals. The tall dead stumps in the middle of the swamp acted like magnets, triggering their strident calls whose echoes, like dark mermaids, bewitched me. In mythology, herons are often seen as messengers of the divine; symbols of patience, grace, and the power of stillness. They stand motionless for hours, inviting those who observe them to reflect. This body of work attempts to capture the poetic rhythm of their nesting ritual, their sculptural presence is melancholic, mysterious, and full of silent eloquence. These images have cumulated numerous international rewards.
